CHERRY VALLEY, CA — Two men attempted to steal a payment machine from the entry to Bogart Regional Park entrance early Monday morning, but their efforts were in vain, officials said.

The attempted crime was caught on camera, and footage showed the men hopping out of a white Ford pickup truck just before 4 a.m. at the park's entrance The two— who tried to hide their identities by wearing masks and spraying over the surveillance cameras with spray paint— then tried varying ways of ripping the payment machine from the ground.

"These guys woke up extra early on a Monday to 'get to work' trying to steal our entrance payment machine," a park service representative wrote on Instagram. Park officials were able to share "lots of pictures and descriptions" with area law enforcement, who are investigating the attempted theft.

The "sturdy" payment machine, which is used to collect money for fishing and parking, is deeply set in concrete. As of Monday afternoon, it remained in working condition, despite the men even trying to use a tow-line to rip it from its base.

"It's still useable," a park worker identified only as Kaylee told Patch.

Not only did they "unsuccessfully spray paint the cameras," park officials wrote on Instagram, but they also "didn't get away with the theft."

Anyone who recognizes the men or the unique truck (a single cab Ford F-series with a toolbox) was asked to call (951) 330-0645.

"Thank you to every person who enters Bogart Regional Park with the best of intentions," park officials wrote. "Thankful there are more of us than them. Don't mess with our beloved Bogart."
