Despite his resignation as deputy Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) and his promise to continue fighting for Tobagonians, Watson Duke has made a pledge to fight for Port of Spain.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday where he announced his resignation and further made several allegations against sitting THA Secretary Farley Augustine, Duke said he’s now going to focus his energies towards fighting for the capital’s constituents, who he believes are continuously being ignored by their elected representatives.
“I intend to commit myself to another fight. I decide to take on a fight now with the People’s National Movement…a more direct fight, a fight for Port of Spain. My brothers and sisters in Port of Spain, they too have been crying out. They too have been begging for years, of some type of release, and PNM keeps winning over and over again and I’ve decided to engage in that fight for Port of Spain.”
“Because whenever there is a fight, I will fight until my last day comes, I will fight for people. I’ve fought for Tobago- we have won Tobago…and I will fight for Port of Spain.”
Asked how soon he intends to join the race, Duke said,
“As soon as they call Local Government Elections, we will be there, we will content the elections.”
In April of this year, the PDP opened its first office in Trinidad.
Speaking at the launch in Barataria, Duke described the venture as “the beginning of a political revolution.”
He said “PDP has always been national. Its focus has been Tobago first. Now, with able-bodied leaders at the helm of THA putting Tobago first, the PDP can respond to Trinidad’s cry for political help.”
Duke had previously said his first order of business is to prepare a team to contest seats in the Port of Spain City Corporation in the upcoming local government elections.
