IONIA — Downtown Ionia businesses can apply for a program that provides technology-related technical assistance and grant funding.
Optimize Main Street is a pilot program to support place-based businesses in the Main Street Shopping District of a Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MECD) Redevelopment Ready Community, according to a news release.
The program is implemented through a combination of one-on-one business coaching, a customized learning module and up to $2,500 in a technology grant. Examples of eligible expenses, according to the release, include:
Grant applications are due to the Ionia Downtown Development Authority office by 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18. Hard copies are available at the DDA office, located at 203 W. Main St. In downtown Ionia.
General applications will be reviewed by a select committee with two being forwarded for the final determination, according to the release. The MEDC and Northern Initiatives will review the two submitted applications to ensure the selected businesses meet all eligibility requirements.
Once eligibility Is determined, MEDC will notify businesses that are selected and introduce them to their business coach at Northern Initiatives. Businesses work directly with their coach to complete program requirements, according to the release. The requirements must be completed within 45 days of program selection.
Businesses who participate in the program will “aim to refine efficiency in business operations, improve connectivity to customers and/or increase sales,” according to the release.
