One of the largest single-owned U.S. Domino's franchises reported a 69% drop in what it called "driver safety incidents" following activation of a GPS fleet tracking and safety technology last year, according to a news release from the company that supplied the system, Drivosity.

The 113-unit franchise known as Team Cowabunga has locations across Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina, where operators were experiencing higher costs due to incidents involving their drivers, along with more insurance claims and the ensuing skyrocketing premiums, the company said. After implementing the tracking and safety system that trend is turning around.

"We are not only increasing road safety and efficiency for our team and our customers, but we are also helping create safer driving environments in our communities," Team Cowabunga CEO Mike Orcutt said in the release. "We also look forward to our auto insurance renewal, as we are confident the premiums will be much lower."

Drivosity Vice President of Business Development Alesia Hopkins credited the Domino's franchise with a culture of "doing the right thing," which she said energizes its operations. The GPS-based system does things like logging drivers' speed and operating behaviors.
