that it no longer works.Hardly any technology product has exposed sales practices as pernicious as those of printer manufacturers. But, customer reviews are not a reason to change them. After Canon cartridges sold with DRM, Epson disables fully functional printers. The scenario has been described by many customers: the printer purrs happily to itself. Then an error message appears: “A part of your printer has reached the end of its service life”.As Fighttorepair reports, the Japanese manufacturer has programmed an end of life in the software of certain models of its inkjet printers. In short: it is planned obsolescence caused by a program.Among the models concerned, the L130, L220, L310, L360 and L365.It gets even more absurd when you look closely at which component is affected. The message is triggered because an ink sponge has caught excess ink from the printer. However, the potential "leakage" is here monitored by a simple counter.Once the number of prints determined by Epson has been registered, the printer is automatically disabled — regardless of the state of the ink sponge. For information, inkjet printers have two types of sponges. One is in the cartridge and the other is an ink absorber. My wife's very expensive @EpsonAmerica printer just gave a message saying it had reached the end of its service life and proceeded to brick itself.Apparently she can pay to service it or buy a new one even though it was working fine.Outrageous!— Mark Tavern (@marktavern) July 22, 2022Next, what if the printer refuses to work? You can just replace the ink sponge, it's one of the cheapest parts.Epson has published a support article, in which it is discovered that a repair is possible.Nevertheless, it is also written that such a repair would not be worth it.Luckily, the community has created plenty of content to help consumers fix this problem without buying a new printer.Epson also offers utility software for Windows, which allows you to "reset" the printer to continue using it for a seemingly very limited time. The printer industry is still amazing. As much as products are rather boring from a technological point of view, printer manufacturers can surprise us.Last year, we told you about the story of Canon multifunction printers that refuse to scan when one of their ink tanks is empty.A detestable practice that has spawned a class action lawsuit in the United States.Far from having said its last word, the multifunction printer with scanner is still useful at home.We have chosen for you the best multifunction printers for all budgets.Read moreTo follow us, we invite
